Big Data Meets Data Journalism – Don’t Believe the Hype!

Big Data is one of the most overused buzzwords in recent years. So it is about time to give it a reality check and distinguish hype from true value. The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism and the World Newsmedia Network take on this challenge for the media industry organising a one-day conference headlined "Harnessing the Power of Big Data for Media" on May 8th, 2014 in London.

Presenting case studies and best practice examples from a diverse range of media organisations ranging from the Huffington Post and Buzzfeed to the likes of CNN, the BBC and Deutsche Welle, the conference will explore how Big Data technologies and tactics impact their operations and business models.

In a dedicated Data Journalism track Wilfried Runde, Head of Innovation Projects, will be joining Amanda Farnsworth, BBC, and Peter Bale, CNN, to present insights on the development and prospects of Data Journalism in Germany. Bertrand Pecquerie, CEO Global Editors Network, will introduce the nominees of this year's edition of the GEN Data Journalism Awards.
