From Audience to User: Engaging With Audiovisual Heritage Online
,The EUscreenXL project holds an international conference on user engagement.
The conference takes place on October 30-31st at the Casa del Cinema in Rome. It is organised by the best practice network for Europe's audiovisual heritage, EUscreen. The network is delighted to announce that the full programme for the conference, titled "From Audience to User: Engaging with Audiovisual Heritage Online", is now available.
Digital access has changed the ways users can consume and interact with audiovisual heritage materials. For audiovisual archives, it is crucial to engage users in different and meaningful ways. A user-oriented approach helps archives promote valuable online content, increase the visibility of hidden wonders and develop sustainable futures for heritage collections.
The conference agenda draws on the full breadth of knowledge and expertise of the
EUscreen network. It has been designed to take the audience on a journey throughout user engagement approaches in audiovisual heritage projects.
The conference features 2 keynote speakers: **Mr. Tony Ageh **from BBC Archive Development and Ms. Katja Bargum from the Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE). There will be plenary sessions with case studies by renowned European- and US-based experts in the field of audiovisual heritage on the following themes:
- Stories and best practices from the AV field
- Tools for reaching users
- User experiences with audiovisual content
While day one offers speakers and case studies from the field, day two focuses on the
following interactive workshops:
- Increasing the amount of audiovisual heritage online (chaired by the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision),
- Methods for contextualisation (chaired by Utrecht University, Aalto University School
of Art and Design and Noterik BV) - European scholarly networks: Connecting academics who work on the transnational histories of broadcasting (chaired by University of Luxembourg).

The Conference is organized by the National Audiovisual Institute of Poland (NInA), the Istituto Luce Cinecittà (Italy) with support from the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision and the project members of EUscreenXL.
EUscreenXL is a network of European broadcasters and audiovisual archives that runs the Internet portal www.euscreen.eu. Contextualized footage of the project's organizations can be accessed for free.
Deutsche Welle is one of the contributing broadcasters. It currently provides 1,700 items, mainly videos, on the EUscreen portal.
