Meet Us @ GEN Summit 2014

Mobile. Video. Data. Challenge the Status Quo

When: 11–13 June 2014 Where: CCCB, Barcelona, Spain

What is it?

Organized and curated by The Global Editors Network this years's GEN Summit gathers 500 editors-in-chief to mix and mingle with media innovators of all sorts. There is a particular focus on new developments in the field of mobile, video and data. Especially the latter will be prominently featured in the program and through the Data Journalism Awards ceremony. With a record submission of more than 500 projects the competition was fierce. The now 75 finalists as well as the attendees are surely eager to see the results. Acting as the GEN's Director of the Data Journalism Awards, Mirko Lorenz, long-term member of the DW Innovation team, is in charge of the event.

More topics, keynotes and panels to watch in a more than packed three-days-programme include a Robot Journalism Bootcamp, a case study on the impact of Social Media in the Arab World, a special keynote from Andy Carvin on the future of news and a session on „How to reshape your newsroom around Live Reporting and Video Sharing" with Guido Baumhauer, Managing Director of Strategy, Marketing & Distribution at Deutsche Welle.

Why are we there?

With GEN's dedicated focus on technology as the key driver for media innovation this event is a must-attend in the yearly journalism conference circus. Sporting prominent speakers as well as a hackathon and a news start-up pitch the GEN summit promises to have identified the most important topics in the field of media innovation and business. Finally, with contributions to two of the main themes, it's an obivous must for us to be there beyond our professional interests.
