Meet Us @ Prix Italia

When: 21 September 2015 Where: Turin, Italy What is it? Prix Italia, originally launched in 1948, is a well established event hosted in a different Italian city every year.

The one week event, lasting from 19-24 September, brings together media folks from all over Europe and beyond. According to the organizers, the main aim of Prix Italia is "to promote and celebrate the best quality, innovation and creativity in the production of Radio and Television programmes and content for the Web." In addition to the competition, Prix Italia stages numerous cultural events, workshops and expert discussions.

Why are we there?

We are participating in a panel discussion on Monday afternoon (September 21st, 3 -6 pm) on "News and User-Generated Content". The panel consists of a number of verification experts from various organisations:

Our colleague Jochen Spangenberg will be part of the discussion for DW Innovation. He will give an insight view on the state of play regarding the use of eyewitness media in news, and related challenges. He will also outline some of the work carried out in our R&D project REVEAL–an undertaking dealing with various aspects of social media verification.

The session is moderated by Jenni Sargent of Eyewitness Media Hub and Tom Trewinnard of Meedan's Checkdesk.

If you can make it to Turin on September 21st and would like to get in touch to talk about verification of eyewitness media and/or REVEAL, we would love to hear from you. Don't hesitate to get in touch with Jochen at, before or after the event.

For more (live) information from the event itself, you can check out the official Hashtag #PrixItalia2015 or follow our Twitter channel or the Reveal Project.

A previous version of this article also listed Mark Little, founder of Storyful, and Caroline Bannock, UGC social and community editor at The Guardian, as panel members. Unfortunately both had to cancel their participation.
