Meet Us @ MESA’s Metadata Madness

When: 06 September 2016 Where: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, London, United Kingdom What is it? On September 6th, the Media and Entertainment Services Alliance Europe (MESA) is holding its 3rd Annual Metadata Workshop "Metadata Madness", based on the theme "Access All Devices". MESA supports companies that provide content and/or services to the home video, interactive entertainment (games), music and electronic publishing sectors. Another objective is to foster communication and collaboration among entertainment service providers, their customers and their trading partners.

The workshop addresses the key role that handheld and mobile devices now play in delivering a broad range of entertainment content. Once viewed as being a channel suitable only for "short form snacking", more and more viewers are reaching for their phones and tablets to enjoy both TV content and movies. Additionally, the level of engagement has grown, with a rising number of consumers using tablets and phones to search, comment, recommend and share as part of the entertainment experience. The "metadata backbone" needed to support the diverse functionality and flexibility required in this environment is the main focus for this year's Metadata workshop.

Why are we there?

We are a partner in the SAM Project. As part of the workshop programme and the SAM Industrial Workshop, representatives from SAM will share the experiences of using a standardised approach to metadata to characterise, discover and deliver content in a secure interactive environment which allows users to consume and prosume media content from different syndicated sources, using synchronised devices.

The SAM project will be presented in a dedicated area with a presentation of the technologies implemented in the SAM platform and the use of such tools for media and broadcasting. This includes a demonstration of SAM production tools and the end-user consumption context.

DW Innovation will be present with two members of the team: Birgit Gray will be participating in a presentation about the SAM Project, highlighting the benefits of the final prototype for broadcasters and media providers. Peggy van der Kreeft will be leading the demonstration of the SAM production platform and consumption experience.
