Meet Us @ Newsroom Summit 2018

When: 29-30 October 2018 Where: Verdens Gan (VG), Oslo, Norway What is it? WAN-IFRA's yearly Newsroom Summit is "the first stop for senior editorial executives looking to exchange ideas on practical newsroom strategy".

The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers, the global organisation of the world's press, serves as a knowledge hub and a leading global resource for publishers, editors, chief technology officers, digital business executives, news publisher associations, technology suppliers, service providers and research centres. There are three focus areas:

  1. Innovation and business development
  2. Regulation and global media policy
  3. Media freedom

With the organisation of the Newsroom Summit, WAN-IFRA aims to foster international business cooperation among publishers and to share best practices in both business and technology.

The event will consist of different sessions and workshops, bringing together an interesting lineup of media experts from different companies. The sessions will be focusing on four distinctive topics:

  1. Audience engagement
  2. Newsroom organisation
  3. News feed personalisation
  4. Next-level newsroom collaboration

Why are we there?

Our main reason for being there is topic number 3: News feed personalisation. Both Deutsche Well and WAN-IFRA are partners in the Horizon2020 project CPN (Content Personalisation Network), which is working on innovative personalisation methods for European news media. The project has just successfully passed its first year review and is taking aim at evaluating and experimenting with new transparent personalisation approaches.

Our colleague Tilman Wagner will join Andrea Wagemans (WAN-IFRA) and Nikos Sarris (ATC) on stage, to share insights from the project's requirements process (which DW is leading). The panel will discuss the general CPN vision–and talk about how media organisations can benefit from the project as well as support its efforts, starting with testing the prototype with their own content.

If you're interested in more details, don't hesitate to contact Tilman before, during or after the event. He will be happy to discuss our work with you. You can also follow us via @DW_Innovation for insights throughout the conference.
