The First Draft News initiative is one of the leading actors or platforms in the field of social media newsgathering and verification of eyewitness media. Supported by Google News Lab and launched in mid-2015, the main aim of the undertaking is to portray the state of affairs in social newsgathering, provide training material and pool resources on the project website – launched in November 2015.
In the EU funded InVID project we are working hard on solutions to make verification of User Generated Video (UGV) easier and more trustworthy. Right now there are only a few tools to help journalists verify the authenticity of video materials from Social Networks. InVID aims to fill that gap, providing the means with which verification of UGV becomes easier and therefore allows journalists to use (more) trustworthy UGV in their reporting. (more…)

One of the focal points of the REVEAL project is the verification of eyewitness media (or user-generated content as it is still commonly referred to.) The project team develops algorithms and interfaces that are to aid in verification of content residing in social networks, evaluates the legal situation when it comes to social media analysis and processing, and looks at the market in the journalism and enterprise field.
