Joining the initiative to streamline verification and increase news literacy
The First Draft News initiative is one of the leading actors or platforms in the field of social media newsgathering and verification of eyewitness media. Supported by Google News Lab and launched in mid-2015, the main aim of the undertaking is to portray the state of affairs in social newsgathering, provide training material and pool resources on the project website – launched in November 2015.

In the EU funded InVID project we are working hard on solutions to make verification of User Generated Video (UGV) easier and more trustworthy. Right now there are only a few tools to help journalists verify the authenticity of video materials from Social Networks. InVID aims to fill that gap, providing the means with which verification of UGV becomes easier and therefore allows journalists to use (more) trustworthy UGV in their reporting. (more…)

InVID (In Video Veritas) aims to assist in and partly automate the verification of videos captured by eyewitnesses, also referred to as user-generated content. A main goal is to make such videos usable for news providers for inclusion in their daily editorial work by developing a platform that provides services and features that detect, authenticate and check the reliability and accuracy of newsworthy video files spread via social networks.
