InVID logoInVID (In Video Veritas) aims to assist in and partly automate the verification of videos captured by eyewitnesses, also referred to as user-generated content. A main goal is to make such videos usable for news providers for inclusion in their daily editorial work by developing a platform that provides services and features that detect, authenticate and check the reliability and accuracy of newsworthy video files spread via social networks. Eyewitness Media and Verification

The REVEAL project, in which DW Innovation participates, deals – among others – with verification of eyewitness media (or user-generated content as it is still commonly referred to.) The project team develops algorithms & interfaces that are to aid in verification of content residing in Social Networks, evaluates the legal situation when it comes to social media analysis and processing, and looks at the market in the journalism and enterprise field. Verify, verify, verify – the Future of News?

DW Innovation @ NewsXchange

From 12 to 14 November 2014 we had the opportunity to attend the NewsXchange 2014 conference in Prague, Czech Republic. “We” in this case means DW Innovation’s Wilfried Runde and Jochen Spangenberg, completed by Ellen Schuster of DW’s Strategic Programme Planning Department.

The annual conference is one of Europe’s prime events for the news industry. It brings together experts from all over the world. This year’s headcount came down to an astonishing 520 delegates – a first time ever sell-out in the NewsXchange history. Most attendants were either members of the broadcasting and electronic media industries or news agencies. Others came from solution and service providers making their way to the Czech capital to attend an inspiring and well-organized event that was well worth the visit.

Being future-of-media-savvy people, we used the opportunity to discuss the state of affairs in newsgathering and reporting, and to find out about current and new trends and challenges. (more…)

What would Jarvis do?

How do journalists verify content they find in Social Networks? What are current challenges and requirements? Which solutions are already deployed? In context of the REVEAL project we wanted to find out and conducted a number of interviews with journalists.
