In the EU funded InVID project we are working hard on solutions to make verification of User Generated Video (UGV) easier and more trustworthy. Right now there are only a few tools to help journalists verify the authenticity of video materials from Social Networks. InVID aims to fill that gap, providing the means with which verification of UGV becomes easier and therefore allows journalists to use (more) trustworthy UGV in their reporting. (more…)

InVID (In Video Veritas) aims to assist in and partly automate the verification of videos captured by eyewitnesses, also referred to as user-generated content. A main goal is to make such videos usable for news providers for inclusion in their daily editorial work by developing a platform that provides services and features that detect, authenticate and check the reliability and accuracy of newsworthy video files spread via social networks. The REVEAL project, in which DW Innovation participates, deals – among others – with verification of eyewitness media (or user-generated content as it is still commonly referred to.) The project team develops algorithms & interfaces that are to aid in verification of content residing in Social Networks, evaluates the legal situation when it comes to social media analysis and processing, and looks at the market in the journalism and enterprise field. This contribution portrays the state of affairs in the area of verification of eyewitness media and investigates what this means for journalism. (more…)
