“What kind of video footage can we best rehash for digital 3D reconstruction?” – that’s one of the main questions we’ve been exploring in the V4Design project. Our aim is to train innovative photogrammetry algorithms, i.e.: to automatically turn multi-perspective 2D video shots of an object (e.g. an iconic building) into a decent 3D version of that thing. Over the course of the project, we’ve evaluated all kinds of archived footage. Initial results were disappointing, but once we started looking for material in the right place, we actually discovered a very promising approach.(more…)
Wouldn’t it be great to experience the Beatles play their first Hamburg gig from the perspective of a fan who danced in the front row? Or witness the fall of the Berlin Wall in a truly immersive way? Dreaming of a VR Christmas: Fader project and network of media enthusiasts launch immersive advent calendar
Update 13/12: To make sure #VRcalendar still runs on standard mobile devices and with slower internet connections, we decided to split it. There are now two parts (= two different links) with 12 windows each:
Part 1 covers December 1st – 12th (original link).
Part 2 covers December 13th – 24th (new link).
In the scope of the DNI project “Fader”, partners Vragments, DW Innovation, Euronews, and numerous members of the international VR community, most notably VR/AR expo organizers DIGILITY, launch their first VR/360 advent calendar today. The experimental Xmas experience will eventually feature 24 immersive stories/scenes and can be viewed on a wide range of devices. (more…)
