Making #opendata more accessible and transparent

Moving from setup phase to prototyping

Time is passing quickly and YourDataStories (YDS), our research project on making #opendata more accessible and transparent, is already beyond the first year of its three years project duration.

As projects go, the first year was full of first steps: Setting up the consortium, creating the necessary project structures and communication lines as well as establishing a basis for the actual development. Activities ranged from setting up the technical infrastructure to gathering and analysing the main user requirements for the envisioned application.

What’s Your Data Story?

YourDataStories_logoData is everywhere nowadays, from social media to goverment spendings. But how to make sense of it all, how to access the relevant information within?

YourDataStories (YDS) takes a closer look at Open Government Data (OGD) to find a way to make this information easily accessible, understandable, transparent and sharable for everyone.

YDS focuses on methods from data-driven-journalism (#ddj) and data-visualisation (#dataviz), building a solution that allows for easy discovery, analysis and interpretation of #opendata. The aim of the project is to create an ‘interactive canvas’ enabling citizens to write their own data stories and share them across the web.

The development will be driven by three different use cases dealing with public expenditure in Greece and Ireland as well as the spending and effect of development aid from the Netherlands, increasing transparency in these important areas of public interest.

The project runs from February 2015 – January 2018.
